What is the Fox Valley Area Action council?
We are a group of active small business owners and NFIB members which meet four times a year to hear from lawmakers, politicians, and each other regarding statewide and national issues facing small businesses in the Fox Valley area. In addition, we receive timely updates from Springfield and Washington to give us the opportunity to have our voices heard on behalf of small business.

NFIB Midwest Political Director Kevin Hughes Previews the 2006 Election

8/24/2006

Have you ever wanted to get all of the insider information as to how the fall elections are looking?
  • Will the Republicans keep the House or will we get Speaker Pelosi?
  • Will the leadership in the Senate change to Harry Reid and the Democrats?
  • Can Judy Baar-Topinka beat Rod Blagojevich?
NFIB's Midwest Political Director, Kevin Hughes, is coming in from his Columbus, Ohio office to give Fox Valley Area Action Council members the low down on all the critical races. In addition to Kevin's presentation, there will be time for you to ask questions about the candidates, campaigns and likely outcomes.

The meeting is scheduled for Thursday, August 24th at 6:30pm.  We will be meeting at Alarm Detection Systems' office at 1111 Church Road in Aurora.  Many thanks to Bob Bonifas for hosting our group again.

Kevin Hughes, a native of Ambridge, Pennsylvania, began his role as Regional Political Director for NFIB’s Midwest Region on April 12, 2004.  He is responsible for coordinating NFIB’s political involvement and activism programs throughout the nine-state Midwest Region. In doing so, Hughes collaborates with the nine state directors, their staffs, and other regional staff members.

Hughes comes to NFIB following six years of working in the Ohio Legislature in Columbus, Ohio. He began as a Legislative Service Commission intern in 1998, and then served as the legislative aide to State Senator Jeffry Armbruster, before taking on the role of policy assistant for the Senate Majority Caucus.

In 2002, Hughes took a leave from his legislative work to manage the successful re-election campaign of State Senator Jeffry Armbruster.

Hughes is a graduate of Allegheny College in Meadville, Pennsylvania. He holds degrees in Political Science and Biology. He currently resides in Hilliard, Ohio.

Ryan Tate, Field Representative for the 14th Congressional District, will be joining us to discuss ways in which Speaker Hastert's office can assist small businesses with issues related to the federal government.  Ryan has been a part of Denny Hastert's team for almost five years.

In addition, Bob Mitchell, candidate for the Illinois House of Representatives, will be stopping by to explain his platform for small business in Springfield.  Bob is from Aurora and is campaigning for the 83rd House District seat.
