We are a group of active small business owners and NFIB members which meet four times a year to hear from lawmakers, politicians, and each other regarding statewide and national issues facing small businesses in the Fox Valley area. In addition, we receive timely updates from Springfield and Washington to give us the opportunity to have our voices heard on behalf of small business.

NFIB Illinois Minimum Wage Action Alert : News : NFIB Fox Valley Area Action CouncilNFIB Illinois Minimum Wage Action Alert
| Bills moving out of committee
| 11/28/2006
|
Good evening,
I received the following message from our NFIB/IL Director, Kim Maisch.
Yesterday the Illinois House Labor Committee heard "subject matter only" testimony on the concept of raising the minimum wage. Myself along with NFIB member Doug Knight testified against the proposal. Today somewhat unexpectedly, the House moved SB 1268 with amended language that would raise Illinois' minimum wage from $6.50 to $8.25 by 2010. It allows for a "training wage" of 50 cents less than the minimum wage and also retains the current "teen wage" allowing employers to pay those under the age of 18, 50 cents less than the minimum wage.
While NFIB remains opposed, this bill is better that the legislation passed in the Illinois Senate in early November as it no longer contains the automatic, annual increase of the wage wage tied to the minimum wage and the House version retains the "teen wage."
SB 1268 moved out of the House Labor Committee this afternoon on a partisan roll call - all Democrats voting YES and all Republicans voting NO. This bill will be heard in the full House this week and if it passes will go to the Illinois Senate for action. It appears that Democrat leaders along with the Governor have agreed to language in SB 1268.

Please call your State Representative and ask them to vote NO on SB 1268 as amended.
I am adding the contact information for the four State Representatives which make up most of our AAC.
