What is the Fox Valley Area Action council?
We are a group of active small business owners and NFIB members which meet four times a year to hear from lawmakers, politicians, and each other regarding statewide and national issues facing small businesses in the Fox Valley area. In addition, we receive timely updates from Springfield and Washington to give us the opportunity to have our voices heard on behalf of small business.

What is NFIB?
The National Federation of Independent Business is the nation's largest small-business advocacy group representing the consensus views of its 600,000 members in DC and all 50 state capitals.

Employee Communications Regarding the Election
Template and guidelines available

Hi Everyone,

Mark Grant, our NFIB/IL Assistant Director, forwarded these files to me hoping they could benefit everyone between now and Election Day.

The goal of these two attached files is to help educate your employees before they vote on November 7th. Please read the Educating Your Employees Guide. It’s not long, but its advice will keep you from crossing any lines with your employees. The Employee Letter Fox Valley.doc file is a template you can use. It has been used locally and was included with the employee paychecks.

When I was in Washington DC at the National Summit earlier this year, Congressman Jerry Weller made a point in our discussion that educating our employees is important for small business issues to be better understood by the general public. After all, these small business issues can affect the small business employees as much or more than they affect the small business owners.

If you have any questions about this concept, please feel free to let me know or you can reach Mark Grant directly at mark.grant@nfib.org.

Thanks for your support of small business!

The guidelines are linked as a pdf file below.  Here's the letter template:

The election being held on November 7 is more critical than ever for small businesses and their employees.

As you probably know small businesses have faced some of the harshest times in memory due largely to the policies of the current administration and some of the legislative leadership. As an employer who is proud of our employees and wants to keep jobs in Illinois, please know that Judy Baar Topinka will be a far better governor than Rod Blagojevich has been. No matter what political party you identify with, be assured that Judy Baar Topinka will be significantly better for the health of our company and Illinois’ economy.

I’ve made available (e.g.: in the break room) a comparison of Governor Blagojevich and Treasurer Topinka positions on issues that are vital to small businesses such as ours. This was produced by the National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB), an organization of small and independent businesses of which we are a member.

Please make plans to vote on November 7.

We also need to support legislative candidates who support small business and their employees. In our area, State Representative Tom Cross has a 100% voting record, State Representative Patricia Lindner has a 100% NFIB voting record, State Representative Linda Chapa LaVia has as 17% NFIB voting record and State Senator Chris Lauzen has a 100% voting record.

NFIB voting records are based on the 2006 session votes considered crucial to NFIB small business members. Please keep in mind the health of our company when you vote.

No matter your opinion, please do get out and vote. Democracy depends on it. Thanks for taking time to become more informed and to vote.
